Chief Warden & Building Evacuation

This course designed for students to be trained to perform the role of Chief Warden, or act as part of an emergency control organisation member for a workplace or facility.
Pre-requisites:
It is recommended that participants have either previously undertaken warden training or possess a strong understanding of the role of a warden in the workplace.

Description:
The Chief Warden is head of the ECO and should have a good knowledge of the layout of the building, structure and workplace. On becoming aware of an emergency, the Chief Warden shall take the following actions:
- Ascertain the nature of the emergency and determine appropriate action
- Ensure that the appropriate emergency service has been notified
- Ensure that floor or area wardens are advised of the situation
- If necessary, initiate evacuation and control entry to the affected areas
- Ensure the progress of the evacuation and any action taken is recorded in an incident log
- Brief the emergency services personnel upon arrival on type, scope and location of the emergency and the status of the evacuation.

Assessment:
Students learning outcomes will be assessed using practical activities designed to simulate a workplace incident and written or oral questions as appropriate.
Delivery Method:
Classroom theory via PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material and practical activities that simulate workplace incidents relating to fire.
